Porcellio werneri, known as Greek Shield Isopods, are a large and impressive species prized for their wide, flared “shield” shape and bold appearance. Native to Greece, they make an excellent display species for arid and semi-arid bioactive setups.
Care Requirements
Temperature
Keep between 72 to 82°F.
Humidity
Provide a semi-arid enclosure with strong ventilation and a clear moisture gradient. Keep one side slightly moist and the rest mostly dry.
Substrate
Use a well-draining mix of organic soil, sand, leaf litter, and cork bark. Add a calcium source such as limestone or cuttlebone.
Diet
Offer leaf litter as a staple, supplemented with vegetables and occasional protein like fish flakes or dried shrimp.
